I recently started The Health Beet, a blog written for busy parents about kid friendly foods, recipes, restaurant reviews, discounts and bargains, holistic medicine, nutrition, etc. My journey started 13 years ago when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Conventional medicine left me feeling worse, so I was on the search for a healthy alternative. I realized first hand, the link between great food and great health.
When our son, Sam, was born, due to numerous complications, he was only able to breastfeed for a short time. The one perfect food I could give my baby was no longer an option. Nothing could replace breast milk, but was there a way to boost children’s immunity by using super foods? Yes. I dove into every book and website. I talked to numerous experts to find about more about children’s nutrition and health.
Our son also has milk and gluten allergies/sensitivities, so it added more research on alternative food choices. Just because it says gluten or dairy free or vegan doesn’t mean it’s healthy!
This blog is about my journey and what I have learned from the help of books, websites and nutrition experts. I often get asked how I get Sam to eat healthy, well….. for the most part.
He is like almost any child, he loves sweets, and would pick chocolate over about anything.
We have a rule in our house, only to have healthy food/drink options. Going outside of the house is for treats and indulgences. Trying not to make a big deal out of the occasional bad food choice – we don’t want it to be the “forbidden fruit”.
In the upcoming posts I plan to write about subjects ranging from superfoods to incorporate in your everyday cooking or assembling (how I often cook!), how to save on your grocery bills, supplements every child needs, how to make nutritious school lunches and much more. My vision is to have simple tips and videos that make life a little easier and healthier. Please send me an email or post on this blog, if you have any suggestions. Also, if you have some great ideas/tips to make life a little healthier, please send those ideas and I will post them on my blog.

I am no expert, just a Mom who is passionate about learning more about the relationship between food and good health.
You are a complete joy! Congratulations on your new adventure. I can't wait to read all of your posts! Amy
